An Incredible Basecamp for Exploring the Big Island

We're tucked away in the rainforest while still being conveniently located for exploring this side of the island:

20 minutes → Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park
15 minutes → nearest supermarket
30 minutes → downtown Hilo

Whether you're hiking through volcanic landscapes, chasing waterfalls, exploring Hilo, or simply spending a rainy morning with coffee surrounded by the jungle, Jungle Dome Hawaii makes a peaceful home base for your Big Island adventure.

And one thing first-time visitors often don't realize: the Island of Hawaiʻi is big! It's larger than all the other Hawaiian Islands combined, so we recommend planning your adventures—and drive times—accordingly.

A Real Off-Grid Hawaiian Home

Jungle Dome Hawaii is a fully off-grid geodesic dome.

Our electricity comes from the sun.
Our water comes from the rain.

The dome operates on solar power and rainwater catchment (and is filtered through our water-treatment system), giving you an opportunity to experience a simpler and more sustainable way of living in Hawaiʻi. 

Because rainfall provides our water and sunshine provides our electricity, conservation isn't just something we talk about here—it's part of everyday off-grid life.

We simply ask our guests to enjoy both thoughtfully.

That also means life here works a little differently.

We ask guests to be mindful of electricity and water use. High-energy appliances such as hair dryers and irons should not be used, as they can overload an off-grid solar system.

Like any working off-grid home, weather and other unexpected conditions can occasionally affect the systems. That's part of choosing an authentic off-grid stay rather than a conventional hotel.

Welcome to the Rainforest

We're at approximately 1,400 feet elevation on the rainy side of the Big Island, where the lush landscape exists for a reason: it rains!

Temperatures can be cooler than at the coast, particularly at night, and the weather can change quickly. Bring a light jacket and rain gear and embrace it—the sound of tropical rain on the dome can be one of the most relaxing parts of staying here.

And because this is a real rainforest, we share it with coqui frogs, birds, geckos and insects. 

For nature lovers, that's part of the magic.
